John Dalziel and Richard Wigglesworth have both been confirmed as part of the British and Irish Lions coaching team ahead of their tour of Australia this summer.

Dalziel is currently Scotland forwards coach, while Wigglesworth is England senior coach and both diversify a coaching staff that leans heavily on head coach Andy Farrell's Ireland backroom team.

Simon Easterby served as interim head coach for Ireland during this year's Six Nations and will join up with the Lions, alongside backs coach Andrew Goodman and scrum coach John Fogarty.

There is no place for kicking coach Neil Jenkins, who had been with the Lions on their four previous tours, or any Welsh representation whatsoever.

It is the first time since 2001 that there will be no Welsh person in the coaching team, while Farrell's former rugby league team-mate Shaun Edwards opted against joining the team.

Edwards is the assistant coach for France and is committed to his job with the 2025 Six Nations champions, who will tour New Zealand this summer.

"Putting together a Lions coaching team is an honour and a privilege, and the five phone calls made to this group of coaches reminds you just how special and unique it is," said Farrell.

"This coaching group has versatility and are interchangeable in their skillset, which is a vital asset to have on a Lions Tour.

"I think we have a fantastic mix and every one of these guys will bring their own character and personality to the team."

Wigglesworth played scrum-half for England during his playing career and comes into the Lions coaching staff on the back of helping his nation to a second-placed finish in the Six Nations.

"Proud is probably an understatement to how I am feeling right now," he said.

"I never got to play with Andy, but he was my coach at Saracens and England so I know his calibre and I am thoroughly looking forward to working with him."

Dalziel, meanwhile, echoed Wigglesworth's excitement, having been in the Scotland coaching set-up since 2020.

"It's a huge honour and I am massively thankful for the opportunity. It's a real pinch-yourself moment," he said.

"Even from our first meeting as coaches you could feel the energy in the room and it is hugely exciting to work with these guys."
